The Solution Focused Way: Evaluating Risk and Finding Solutions in the Face of Crisis
Delivered in small, interactive workshops of no more than 25 people, these advanced workshops build on the Solution Focused basics learnt in the The Solution Focused Way workshop, and therefore assume a basic understanding of Solution Focused tools and techniques.
Overview:
This specialist workshop reviews the evidence base around the risk of suicide and presents Thomas Joiners model of Suicide, providing a framework to help participants approach risk assessments more effectively. In the second part of the day, Solution Focused methodology is explained in relation to working with clients that present with significant risk.
Learning outcomes and objectives:
1. Learn how to assess risk of suicide by focusing on static, clinical, historical and situational factors
2. Review statistical evidence of high risk groups
3. Learn about Joiners model of suicide and how it can be used in effective risk assessments
4. Gain an understanding of how SFT can be used to help assess the risk of suicide patients
5. Observe and practice how SFT techniques are applied to manage the risk of suicide

Due to the design of this training I am able to offer the risk assessment element as a half day workshop without participants having had completed previous solution focused training.
Finding Solutions at the Bottom of the Glass: A Solution Focused Approach to Addictions
Overview:
This specialist workshop introduces types of addictive behaviour and looks at what makes an alcoholic. Facts and figures around alcohol consumption are reviewed. Participants are invited to explore the different types of therapeutic relationships and how these can impact on working with the addict. Solution Focused methodology is explained in relation to working with clients that present with addictive behaviour with the focus remaining positive on how progress can be enhanced and maintained.

1. Learn how to examine different types of addictive behaviour
2. Review statistical evidence of alcohol consumption and those at higher risk of developing problematic behaviour
3. Explore how different types of therapeutic relationships can impact on working with an addict
4. Observe and practice how SFT techniques are applied to working with an individual with problematic addictive behaviour
